Sir Alex Ferguson is a true Manchester United legend, being an icon for the club, attending games long since leaving his role as manager.

After retiring, the 84-year-old took on the role of the club’s global ambassador, his role ultimately fell victim to the INEOS cost-cutting as they axed his multi-million-pound role last year.

Despite no longer holding the position, the former United manager is regularly seen at Old Trafford, so his appearance for The Red Devils’ weekend clash with Liverpool was no great surprise.

Unfortunately, however, Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t see out the full game as United went on to a 3-2 win, as he was taken to hospital after feeling unwell.

Sir Alex Ferguson suffers health scare at Old Trafford

It’s understood that the move to take the 84-year-old to the hospital was a precautionary measure, following an on-site check from medical staff at Old Trafford.

Now, a source close to the situation has responded to the press association’s questions of how Sir Alex Ferguson is doing, claiming he’s “okay”, being in good spirits, feeling better.

While the news is positive, for Ferguson, the health scare and hospital trip meant he missed out on being at Old Trafford as United beat their rivals, securing a Champions League spot and setting up a top-three finish.

United only need a further three points to come third overall under Michael Carrick in a year that has seen them bounce back from recent failed finishes.

Thankfully now, Ferguson will have the prospect of European football to look forward to at Old Trafford next season as the club are already looking to benefit from the return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils are all set for an extra £100 million in revenue from taking part in the competition, with most of the squad set for an increase in wages by 25% due to clauses in their contracts for qualifying for the illustrious competition.
