Sir Alex Ferguson is a name that dominates Manchester United’s recent history, with his 27-year reign at Old Trafford being the club’s most successful.
Under his management, The Red Devils won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League titles, a FIFA Club World Cup, and 19 domestic cups.
As such, Ferguson is deeply rooted in the success of the club, a level of success that hasn’t come close to being achieved since his retirement in 2013.
The sacking of Ruben Amorim marks the club’s sixth permanent manager to be let go since Ferguson’s retirement, with the club now searching for yet another new manager.
Whilst Darren Fletcher is holding the fort in the short term, preparing the side for their clash with Burnley, a full caretaker manager is being recruited for the rest of the season.
At this time, the front-runner appears to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who not only played for United, but also managed them after Jose Mourinho was sacked in 2018.
The return to Solskjaer appears to be a desire from the club to reconnect with their successful pass, a move that is also seen with their approach to Sir Alex Ferguson.
Now, Mike McGrath of The Telegraph has reported that Sir Alex Ferguson was at Carrington earlier today, meeting with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox.
The timely nature of this visit, with them having talks “over coffee” suggests more than just a casual drop-in, conveniently at a time when the club need stability most.
Whilst the nature of the conversations are yet unknown, Ferguson has always wanted United to succeed, having taken on the role of Global Ambassador after retiring from management.
Given the other reports of United contacting club legends like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Michael Carrick, as well as Jonny Evans returning to Fletcher’s set up, this could well be an attempt to reconnect with times gone by.
