Sir Jim Ratcliffe blocks Marcus Rashford transfer

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Marcus Rashford remain at the centre of another major Manchester United transfer story this summer.

Rashford has spent almost his entire career connected to United after coming through the club’s academy and becoming a first-team regular.

The England international has scored more than 100 goals for the club and has also represented his country at multiple major tournaments.

Last season, however, he spent the campaign on loan at Barcelona.

Rashford made 49 appearances for the Spanish giants, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists.

Barcelona eventually decided against activating their option to sign him permanently for £24 million.

That sent Rashford back to Old Trafford, where his future has remained uncertain throughout the summer.

He has now returned to United’s squad for the remainder of pre-season and is working under Michael Carrick again.

That has raised the possibility of a reintegration into the first-team setup.

However, fresh reports suggest Ratcliffe has placed major limits on what sort of transfer United would sanction.

Manchester United place major restriction on Rashford exit

According to the Mirror, Ratcliffe remains keen to remove Marcus Rashford from the club’s wage bill.

However, he is unwilling to sell the forward to Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City.

The report also states that loan moves to Chelsea, Aston Villa and Tottenham have been ruled out.

United are concerned about strengthening direct domestic rivals, especially if Rashford helped one of them qualify for the Champions League.

Rashford is still understood to prefer a move away from Old Trafford.

He is planning talks with Carrick once United return from their commitments in Dublin.

The 28-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract and could remain at United if no suitable deal emerges.

Another option would be to stay for the season and attempt to rebuild his value before pursuing a transfer in 2027.

For now, Ratcliffe’s stance appears to significantly reduce Rashford’s options within the Premier League.
