Slot: Liverpool star sidelined with injury he suffered against Arsenal

Liverpool boss Arne Slot revealed that Curtis Jones has suffered an injury against Arsenal, sidelining him for the Burnley game. The Reds have won their first three Premier League games this season, which include victories against Newcastle United and Arsenal.

However, Liverpool have displayed some vulnerabilities in the defence, conceding four goals in the three matches, which raises some concerns. There is another issue with the squad’s lack of depth, as Dominik Szoboszlai has been deployed as a right-back frequently.

Slot cannot afford to lose more first-team regulars in the midfield and defence department due to the lack of numbers. However, the Reds have enough players in midfield to avoid any serious concern at the moment despite Jones’ untimely injury.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference (via Liverpoolfc.com), Slot revealed that Jones suffered an injury against Arsenal and will miss the game against Burnley. He said:

“We train for the first time today with them, with most of them – the non-internationals did train with the U21S this week already. Curtis Jones, of course, I don’t know if you knew, but he got injured in the last game, so he will not be available for the game against Burnley. The rest of them, I think, all came back without a problem – and that’s not always the situation. Especially not in the beginning of the season, where everybody comes from a different background going to the national team, where they all of a sudden have to play two games in four or five days, which is always the biggest risk. In November, October or March, they are much more used to that programme.”

Midfield options against Burnley

Liverpool have a stacked midfield right now with Florian Wirtz as the regular number 10 in the team. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch are the potential partners for Wirtz in this game, as Szoboszlai continues to perform well as the makeshift right-back for the club.

The Reds also have Wataru Endo in the role of a backup for both midfield and defensive positions. At the same time, Stefan Bajcetic has made a significant improvement with his fitness to leave his nightmare injury record behind.

Though Slot would not hope for a worst-case scenario, the Reds have exciting young talent, Trey Nyoni, in their ranks. Rest assured, Liverpool needs to rectify the problems they have shown at the early stages of the current season. Apart from their defensive fragilities, the midfield has failed to dominate possession and ease some pressure off the team against Newcastle and Arsenal.
