Juventus FC defender Alisha Lehmann recently addressed an issue many athletes face—online hate and criticism.
During an interview with Carlo Pastore on the “Small Talk” podcast, the soccer star opened up about how she handles negative comments and backlash, offering fans an insight into her perspective.
Lehmann, who has amassed millions of followers on social media, is no stranger to criticism. However, when asked if she cares about the hateful comments, she made it clear that she doesn’t let them affect her.
“No, I don’t care,” she said. “I always think if I do something and my mom tells me it’s not good, then I don’t do it. But as long as she doesn’t tell me it’s not good, then it’s fine.”
One specific criticism Lehmann frequently faces is regarding her decision to wear makeup while playing soccer. Despite the online backlash, she confidently defended her choice.
"People always hate that I wear makeup when I play. But I don’t know what’s the problem because I don’t hurt anybody. Like, what’s the problem?" she said.
For Lehmann, wearing makeup is part of her identity, and she doesn’t see it as a hindrance to her performance on the field.
"And I’m a girly girl; I can also play without, but it’s becoming my thing,” she added.
Interestingly, Lehmann shared how online hate motivates her to embrace her individuality even more.
"Sometimes now I enjoy when they’re angry because I feel like, now, even I put more lipstick on, because of you saying that you didn’t like it. So now it’s your fault,” she joked with a laugh.
Pastore, acknowledging her response, playfully noted, "The more you say, the more lipstick you use."
To which Lehmann replied, "Yeah, because what’s the problem? I don’t do something bad to someone. It’s just my thing."
Lehmann’s candidness in addressing this topic highlights her confidence and resilience. As one of the most-followed female footballers on Instagram, with 16.5 million followers, she continues to be an inspiration for many, both on and off the field.
In addition to her soccer career, Lehmann has also ventured into modeling, recently making waves as the newest brand ambassador for Italian clothing brand Tezenis.
