Son Heung-min is one of the most beloved players in the world. Now playing for LAFC after a ten-year tenure with Tottenham Hotspur, the number 7 shirt he wore in his first game for the black-and-gold team has been sold for over $10,000.
Selling sports jerseys for thousands of dollars is not new. Dozens of players and organizations have done this over the years in the NFL, NHL, MLB, and now in MLS.
As Son draws fans to stadiums to see him play—whether for or against their team—his jersey quickly became one of the season’s best sellers. Fans had the chance to buy the shirt he wore in his LAFC home debut through an online auction.
After 44 bids, the shirt was sold for $11,000 to an undisclosed buyer. In a few years, it could be worth up to five times that amount, depending on the impact Son has with LAFC.

After Gareth Bale left Tottenham for the second time in his career, he joined LAFC in 2022 and delivered one of the most memorable performances in MLS Cup history—scoring a late equalizer and then converting a penalty in the shootout against Philadelphia Union.
Now, three years later, Son joins a team that has seen several European stars pass through its ranks. With his track record of scoring decisive goals, he has the potential to replicate Bale’s impact.
If LAFC makes it to the final, Bouanga could have another chance at a title with a former Tottenham star by his side.
