Tottenham Hotspur had quite a busy end to the summer transfer window as they were engaged in several operations to either further strengthen their team or to ensure the departures of some of their players who are not parts of Thomas Frank’s plans for this season.
Spurs were also able to successfully complete the signing on loan of a new forward, Randal Kolo Muani, right on the deadline day of the transfer window, as they got him from Paris Saint-Germain.
However, as per a report from TeamTalk, the North London side was not really a preferred destination for the French youngster. The report has cited the Italian journalist Mirko di Natale, who, in a talk with the Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, revealed that Muani was looking for a return to Juventus, the club where he had spent the last season on loan.
The journalist revealed that Tottenham was a second-choice for the footballer:
“If you talk to people close to PSG, they’ll tell you that Juventus changed their formula 100,000 times, so Paris Saint-Germain wanted to break off negotiations.
“If you talk to people close to Juve, they’ll tell you that PSG never really opened up, even to the latest proposals. I feel very sorry for the boy because I read that he was very attached to the environment and hoped to return.
“However, a player like [Lois] Openda is coming to Juventus, who I think can do very well.”
This tussle between PSG and Juventus ultimately ended up benefitting Tottenham, as the French side understood that the player was looking for a way out of their club, and even if his preferred move to Juventus could not be materialized, he would join any other side.
Furthermore, PSG were previously adamant that any side landing the forward should have an obligation to buy the forward at the end of the loan. However, Spurs were able to land Muani on loan while keeping only an option to buy him at the end of his loan stint. The player’s insistence on leaving PSG also played a part in forcing the club to accept this agreement with the Lilywhites.
For now, it remains to be seen how Kolo Muani performs at his new side. Playing in the Premier League is not really going to be easy, especially for a team that is going to be one of the title-contenders this season. Furthermore, Thomas Frank has a plethora of attacking talent at his disposal, and it remains to be seen how many minutes the youngster would be able to get with the North London side.
