Steven Gerrard wants Manchester United assistant

Steven Gerrard has been locked out of management since he left Al-Ettifaq in the late stages of last year.

The Liverpool legend, who made over 500 appearances for the Merseyside side, has had reigns at both Rangers and Aston Villa as he looks to build a reputation in the managerial scene.

Whilst his spell at Rangers was successful, winning 127 games across three years at the Scottish giants, Gerrard did not experience success with Villa or Al-Ettifaq with 1.2 and 1.3 points per game coming across his time at the two clubs.

The 46-year-old has been linked with a return to management this summer as he decides the next stage of his professional career.

Rangers manager Danny Rohl is in advanced talks with RB Leipzig, fuelling links of Steven Gerrard return to Ibrox. The manager has previously stated that he was close to a return but ultimately decided not to take that step.

Now, it appears that the Liverpool legend is taking the steps needed to return to management with him constructing his managerial team.

Alan Nixon now reports, amongst this, that Gerrard is targeting Manchester United assistant Steve Holland as he builds an ideal team for management.

Nixon also stated that the 46-year-old is currently in the frame to join recently relegated side Burnley as links with Rangers continue to transpire.

Holland has been with Manchester United since Michael Carrick joined the club in January and recently signed a new two-year deal with the Red Devils signalling his commitment towards the club.

As Gerrard’s first choice option, Steve Holland could be at the centre of interest over the coming weeks.

United will need to fend off this interest if the club are to keep the former England coach. With a strong place at the negotiating table given his recent contract extension, Manchester United could be confident in this.
