Stoke City officially hire former Manchester United coach

Manchester United have seen many coaches continue their careers elsewhere after leaving Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 started a period of constant change at United.

David Moyes later rebuilt his career at West Ham before returning to Everton.

Louis van Gaal went on to manage the Netherlands again, while Jose Mourinho continued his career across Europe after leaving United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also returned to management with Besiktas after spending several years away from the dugout.

More recently, Ruben Amorim joined AC Milan after United dismissed him in January.

Michael Carrick went in the opposite direction, returning to Old Trafford and eventually securing the permanent job.

However, United’s coaching history goes far beyond the managers who have occupied the Old Trafford hot seat.

Many coaches have worked behind the scenes to develop players for the first team. One former United coach has now secured a new role in English football.

Stoke City confirm new coaching appointment

Stoke City have officially announced that Warren Joyce has joined the club as a Professional Development Phase Coach.

Joyce spent eight years working with Manchester United’s reserves between 2008 and 2016.

He initially worked alongside Solskjaer before taking sole charge.

During his time at United, Joyce helped develop several players who later established themselves in senior football.

Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Danny Welbeck were among the talents to progress through United during his years at the club.

After leaving Old Trafford, Joyce stepped into senior management with Wigan Athletic. He later moved abroad to take charge of Melbourne City.

The 61-year-old subsequently returned to player development. He worked at Salford City before spending five years within Nottingham Forest’s academy structure.

Joyce eventually became Forest’s Lead B Team Coach before leaving the City Ground this summer.

Stoke have now handed him his next opportunity. The former United coach immediately joined their coaching team for the Under-21s’ Premier League International Cup fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach.
