Stones completes free transfer to Inter

Inter have confirmed the signing of John Stones, with the England defender joining as a free agent following the expiry of his Manchester City contract.

According to Inter’s official announcement, the Englishman has signed a two-year deal at San Siro, swapping the blue of City for the black and blue of the Nerazzurri as he embarks on the first chapter of his career outside England.

Stones brings City pedigree to Cristian Chivu’s Inter

It is a notable coup for the Serie A champions; Stones leaves Manchester a decorated winner, having claimed six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League across 295 appearances.

He also arrives fresh from helping England to a bronze medal at the 2026 World Cup.

His pedigree is beyond question, even if his recent fitness record is not; either way, the fee-free nature of the deal makes it a low-risk gamble.

At Inter he reunites with former City team-mate Manuel Akanji and hands Cristian Chivu a proven, ball-playing presence for a backline preparing to defend the Scudetto.
