Manchester United are scheduled to be heading to City Ground this weekend. And the Premier League heavyweights will do so on a high given their run of form with three consecutive wins in three games. It finally looks like Ruben Amorim is finding his stride at Carrington.
There would be little desperation for changes for the visitors, especially given that three points here would make it four Premier League wins on the bounce.
We will take a look at the possible lineup that the Portuguese head coach could put out against Sean Dyche’s men this weekend.
Senne Lammens is undroppable right now given the kind of performances he has been putting in. The 22-year-old Belgian has settled fast and is sure to start between the posts unless there are any injury concerns.
Ideally the back three should be unchanged from the Brighton game. Many would pick Harry Maguire in the lineup if he is fit to match Chris Wood physically. But given that Sean Dyche is ideally going to play transitional football, it would be better to have someone more mobile. This is where Yoro retains his place with Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw.
Lisandro Martinez remains on the sidelines given that he is closing in, but this Nottingham Forest game comes too soon for him.
Coming into the phase, it is highly unlikely for Amorim to go conservative when facing this Forest side with Dyche on the touchline. This means that Amad Diallo is expected to keep his place in the right wing-back slot, especially given how his presence on that channel has allowed Bryan Mbeumo to continue to work on the inside.
Then in that left wing-back role, Patrick Dorgu had a shaky cameo against Brighton, and it may cost him a start. So Diogo Dalot should stay on the left. Mazraoui is another option, but with Dalot there, the side has looked more balanced.
In midfield, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes continue to be Amorim’s trusted duo. The Portuguese midfielder had a big influence last weekend, while the anchoring role of Casemiro remains important. While Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte have quality, none of them have the capacity to dislodge the aforementioned two.
While Mason Mount has returned from injury, Cunha should keep his place on that left flank. His drives with the ball can cause a lot of problems for a settled defence. And on the other side will be Bryan Mbeumo, who is unstoppable at the moment given his performances of late.
Benjamin Sesko continues upfront despite his rusty outing against the Seagulls last weekend.
Predicted Man United lineup vs Nottingham Forest (3-4-2-1):
Lammens; Yoro, de Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dalot; Mbeumo; Sesko, Cunha
