Manchester United’s final few games of the season could still have major implications ahead of what is expected to be a huge summer rebuild at Old Trafford.

Several players continue to face uncertain futures.

This is despite the club securing Champions League qualification following the recent 3-2 victory over Liverpool.

One player who has already publicly backed Michael Carrick to become permanent manager is Amad Diallo.

Now, fresh reports have emerged regarding interest in the winger from his former club.

According to The i Paper, Sunderland have made multiple attempts to re-sign Diallo since his hugely successful loan spell at the Stadium of Light.

The report states that Manchester United have repeatedly rejected approaches from the Black Cats, although interest in the attacker still remains strong behind the scenes.

The 23-year-oold enjoyed arguably the best spell of his senior career during his time on loan at Sunderland under Tony Mowbray.

The Ivorian scored 13 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions during the 2022/23 campaign and quickly became a fan favourite on Wearside.

Mowbray described the winger as a ‘genius’ during an interview with The i Paper.

“With Amad the ball was just stuck to his left foot, no-one could get the ball off him or get anywhere near him,” Mowbray said.

“This kid is a genius. Why hasn’t he been playing?”

Despite that admiration from Sunderland, United internally still appear to value the Ivory Coast international highly.

Carrick has regularly praised Amad publicly since taking charge following Ruben Amorim’s sacking in January.

However, the report also claims there have been growing questions surrounding his long-term future after inconsistent performances during the second half of the season.

Interestingly, Manchester United are set to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

The match is expected to feature several absentees across both squads, with six players currently unavailable heading into the fixture.

Whether Amad Diallo starts remains to be seen.

But Sunderland supporters will undoubtedly welcome him warmly after a loan spell that still holds special memories at the club.
