Manchester United’s goalkeeping hopes appear to have turned around this season after the signing of Senne Lammens.

The Belgian shotstopper arrived from Royal Antwerp in summer 2025 for a fee of £18 million, replacing Andre Onana as the club’s first-choice keeper.

Over the last two years, Onana has failed to provide consistency between the sticks, with Altay Bayindir also failing to step up when given the opportunity.

However, Lammens has now restored faith in the goalkeeper department, with the man behind his signing also keeping an eye on another talent.

Tony Coton was the United goalkeeper scout who pushed for Lammens to be signed over Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

Now, Coton has been seen at Old Trafford watching Sunderland’s Joseph Cowan.

X account Scouts In Attendance confirmed Coton’s presence, and his focus on the 17-year-old in the FA Youth Cup.

In the Fourth Round, Cowan saved two penalties in the shootout against West Bromwich Albion to send The Black Cats through to the Quarter-Finals.

However, Sunderland’s progress in the tournament was brought to an end by United, and goals by Noah Ajayi, Chido Obi and Nathaniel Junior-Brown as The Red Devils won 3-2.

That said, Joseph Cowan did pull off some impressive saves throughout the game, denying a brace for Obi and Ajeyi.

He isn’t the only youngster Coton is watching however, as the scout was also seen at a Cymru Premier game recently in Wales.

Watching Connah’s Quay Nomads take on The New Saints, Tony Coton was understood to be keeping an eye on Kit Margetson.

The young keeper is on loan from Swansea City to Connah’s Quay, keeping clean sheets in 10 games out of his 30 played.

As such, it’s clear that between Cowan and Margetson, United are still keen to secure their goal for years to come.
