Sunderland have enjoyed an impressive return to the Premier League thus far, collecting six points from their first three games. It was a busy summer for The Black Cats, and it appears their business is not done. David Ornstein from The Athletic reports that Sunderland have struck an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Dutch international Lutsharel Geertruida.

The Black Cats Continue Busy Transfer Window

Sunderland returned to the Premier League in dramatic fashion, defeating Sheffield United with an injury-time goal to seal their promotion. Despite the positive start, Régis Le Bris looks determined to add more players to his squad. So far this summer, the club have signed players such as Granit Xhaka, Chemsdine Talbi and Simon Adingra, among others.

It appears the defence is an area the club would like to improve, and Geertruida appears to be the man they want. He is reportedly at the club and has been granted permission to complete his medical before joining the Premier League club. He will join on loan, with an option to buy.

Lutsharel Geertruida to Sunderland

Geertruida is a versatile defender who can also play as a defensive midfielder. He is a quick, strong, agile player whose physicality should help him adapt quickly to the rigours of the Premier League. He’s comfortable with the ball at his feet and more than capable of starting attacks and being a threat further up the field.

His ability at breaking up opposition attacks will also be useful for Sunderland, who will be eager to continue their positive start this season. At 25 years old, it still feels there is an improvement to come from the Dutch International, but in the present, he will bring plenty of tenacity to a team that will have difficult moments through the season, and defensive reinforcements like Geertruida will be vitally important.
