Here is the latest team news and confirmed lineups for this afternoon’s Premier League clash between Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur. Sunderland earned a 2–1 derby victory over Newcastle United in their last match. Brian Brobbey’s winner adds to the late equaliser he scored against today’s opponents earlier this season. The Black Cats overtook Newcastle and now sit comfortably in mid-table in the Premier League. Another positive against Tottenham would boost their chances of European qualification for the first time since 1973.
Tottenham, however, are focused on survival. West Ham United’s victory on Friday night saw Spurs drop into the relegation zone. Roberto De Zerbi will aim to secure Tottenham’s first league win of 2026. His predecessor, Igor Tudor, suffered a heavy 4–1 defeat to Arsenal in his first match. That result set the tone for a poor tenure which yielded just one point from five matches. While Sunderland are aiming to qualify for Europe for the first time since the 1970s, Tottenham are desperately hoping to avoid a first relegation since 1977.
Below are the Sunderland vs Tottenham confirmed lineups.
No players are suspended for the hosts.
Robin Roefs is back in contention after recovering from a hamstring injury which ruled him out of Sunderland’s last three fixtures.
Nordi Mukiele, Reinildo and Enzo Le Fée are all set to feature. Speaking at his press conference, Régis Le Bris confirmed: “They are all ready to start.”
However, Dan Ballard and Nílson Angulo will not feature in this match. Le Bris said: “For Ballard and Angulo, they are close to returning but they won’t be back for Tottenham.”
Injured: Dan Ballard, Nílson Angulo, Jocelin Ta Bi, Romaine Mundle, Bertrand Traoré and Simon Moore.
The visitors have no suspensions.
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario underwent surgery on a hernia. Speaking at Friday’s press conference, De Zerbi confirmed: “Vicario is not ready for the game. I hope he comes back earlier next week, but I don’t know yet.”
This match comes too soon for Rodrigo Bentancur. De Zerbi explained: “Bentancur is working with us, but not completely [ready].”
Yves Bissouma returned to training this week and may feature, following an injury he picked up before the international break.
Mohamed Kudus has suffered a setback in his recovery. The Ghanaian was expected to return soon but may now require surgery and miss the remainder of the season.
Injured: Mohamed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies and James Maddison.
