Manchester United are willing to cover a percentage of the salary of Marcus Rashford to receive a higher transfer fee. The Red Devils are working on selling their surplus players before covering numerous positions that showed vulnerability during last season.
Ruben Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag in the middle of the last season, inheriting a team that was underperforming immensely. The change turned things from bad to worse as Amorim’s vastly different tactical style proved too much for the team.
As the players failed to adapt, the club plummeted to the 15th position by the time the Premier League ended. Now United hierarchy have decided to completely back Amorim and sign the players who suit his tactical style of play.
We All Follow United recently covered that United have to sell before they can buy more players in this window. The Red Devils prioritised the attacking department, signing Matheus Cunha and now pushing for a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo.
Most of the surplus players are the ones who spent last season on a loan spell to gain first-team football. Rashford spent the second half of the season at Aston Villa and enjoyed some rejuvenation until his untimely late injury.
However, Villa rejected the chance to sign Rashford permanently, considering his £40m price tag and wages too much to pay. According to a former United chief scout, Mick Brown (via Football Insider), the Manchester club are willing to cover a percentage of the salary of Rashford to receive a higher transfer fee this summer. He said:
“Man United are open to covering Rashford’s wages. They want to get a decent fee for him, around £40million ideally, but they’re finding it difficult. The way they see it, they’re prepared to take a certain amount of losses and could factor a percentage of his wages into that if they get a good fee up front. That might be the only way they get a big offer. If the choice is, you get £40million but have to pay part of his wages, or you only get say £25million, they’re going to take the first one all day.”
What United cannot afford is to drag the decision, as their desperation to sell Rashford could be exploited later. At the same time, backing Amorim remains the priority, and they cannot let these deals drag out.
With only the attacking department partially covered so far, numerous positions require Amorim’s attention. As for Rashford, the situation remains the same, as it is beneficial for him and his childhood club to part ways.
