In the 1990s, the soccer world had a few great strikers in most of the top European divisions. Such players, who scored many goals for their teams, were amongst the best of their time. These were some of the most prolific strikers of that decade.
The Brazilian striker Ronaldo was a great player and perhaps the best striker. For PSV, Barcelona, and Inter Milan, he scored many goals. Ronaldo was World Footballer of the Year in 1997. In addition, he also scored goals for Brazil and won the World Cup with them. His great speed and skill were assets.
Shearer was the best striker in the Premiership. With Blackburn Rovers, he scored many goals as the top goal scorer and won the league title with 37 goals scored in the season. Later, with a fifteen-million transfer to Newcastle Utd, he would continue to set league records for a striker. For England, further goals were scored at the European Championship and World Cup.
Romario was a great forward player. Winning the 1994 World Cup with Brazil, Romario scored key goals for the team and was almost the top scorer in the World Cup with five goals scored in total. Romario also played for Barcelona, where he scored goals for the club and won the Spanish league.
For Juventus and Italy, Del Piero was a top striker in the European game. Winning the Italian league and Champions League with Juventus, Piero scored a good number of goals for the club in European and domestic games. In addition, Piero also scored goals for Italy. Del Piero was an excellent set-piece taker and good with the ball.
Davor Suker was Croatia’s best striker. In the 1998 World Cup, he scored the most goals, six overall, which took them to the semi-finals where they finished third. He also played for Sevilla, Real Madrid, and Arsenal during the 1990s, and was among the top scoring players in La Liga. Suker won the Champions League and La Liga when playing for Madrid.
Klinsmann was Germany’s top striker. He scored lots of goals for Germany, and briefly starred for Tottenham and Bayern Munich. With Tottenham Hotspur, he was the Football Writers’ Player of the Year. Klinnsmann was a consistent striker for all teams and was one of the best strikers overall.
The Bulgarian striker Stoichkov was an inspiration for his team. Stoichkov was the top goal-scorer in the 1994 World Cup with six goals, which took Bulgaria to the semi-finals. He was European Footballer of the Year. Stoichkov also played for Barcelona, where he scored goals and won the 1992 European Cup. Overall, Stoichkov is regarded as one of Bulgaria’s finest players and a great striker of the era.
Overall, they were the most prolific strikers at the club and international level. They have many key goals for their teams, which include winning games and trophies. There were a few other strikes of comparable quality during the 1990s.
