World number one Carlos Alcaraz has split with his long-time coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero.

After seven years together, winning six Grand Slam titles, the Spanish duo parted ways on Wednesday, December 17.

It’s unclear why Alcaraz and Ferrero came to such a decision, although more will likely be revealed over the coming days.

While some fans are concerned about what this could mean for Alcaraz heading into 2026, perhaps this is a good time to reflect on what he’s achieved so far in his career, with Ferrero in his corner.

The best moments of Carlos Alcaraz’s career

1. Winning his first Grand Slam

When Alcaraz arrived in New York three years ago, few expected him to come away with the trophy.

However, as others slipped up, Alcaraz remained focused and quickly became one of the favorites to win the tournament.

Defending champion Daniil Medvedev and 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal both exited the competition in round four, leaving Alcaraz as the top seed.

He didn’t make life easy for himself, beating Marin Cilic, Jannik Sinner, and Frances Tiafoe in consecutive five-set thrillers to qualify for his first Grand Slam final, where he met Norway’s Casper Ruud.

There, he won in four sets, lifting his first major title on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

2. Dethroning Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon

Alcaraz didn’t have quite as much difficulty reaching his second Grand Slam final, dropping just two sets en route to the Championship match at Wimbledon in 2023.

Standing between Alcaraz and a second major title was Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic hadn’t lost a match at the All England Club since 2017, leaving Alcaraz with a mountain to climb.

But if anyone was going to climb that mountain, it was going to be Alcaraz…

The Spaniard outlasted the Serbian legend in a five-set battle that will go down in Wimbledon history, winning 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, to double his Grand Slam tally.

3. Surviving Championship points to win Roland Garros

Trailing Jannik Sinner 6-4, 7-6, 5-3, 40-0* in the 2025 French Open final, Alcaraz looked down and out.

Refusing to be beaten, Alcaraz fought back miraculously, saving three Championship points to kickstart a memorable comeback.

Alcaraz took the third set 6-4 before winning two tiebreakers to clinch the title and hold onto his French Open crown.

If his Wimbledon win in 2023 was dramatic, his French Open win in 2025 was something else, as he played his part in arguably the greatest Roland Garros final of all time.

4. Returning to world number one

After losing the world number one ranking to Djokovic in 2023, Alcaraz didn’t return to the top spot for over two years.

However, his performances in 2025 put him back in contention, as he stepped on the court for the US Open final knowing a win would see him return to world number one, taking the spot from his greatest rival, Sinner.

Momentum swung back and forth early on, with the Spaniard and Italian winning one set each, before Alcaraz began to dominate.

Taking his game to another level, Alcaraz defeated Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

In doing so, he returned to world number one and held that position for eight weeks, until Sinner stole it back for seven days.

Alcaraz has been world number one ever since, and has now accumulated 50 total weeks.

5. Winning his first Olympic medal

The 2024 Olympic Games were emotional for Alcaraz, as he played doubles alongside Rafael Nadal for the first time.

They missed out on a medal together, but the Spaniard still had a job to do in the singles competition.

Defeating Hady Habib, Tallon Griekspoor, Roman Safiullin, and Tommy Paul, Alcaraz advanced to the semifinals.

If he were to beat Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals, he’d secure himself at least an Olympic silver medal.

Doing just that, Alcaraz swept the Italian aside, winning 6-1, 6-1, on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Unfortunately for Alcaraz, he fell short in the final, losing to Djokovic in straight sets, missing out on the gold.

His first Olympic Games may not have finished how he hoped, but winning an Olympic medal is still a moment to remember.

What does Carlos Alcaraz want to do in 2026?

Alcaraz is clear on what he wants in 2026.

The Spaniard wants to win the Australian Open title and complete the Career Grand Slam.

He’s never been past the quarterfinal stage Down Under, although he looks more likely to challenge than ever before in 2026.

Only time will tell if Alcaraz can win the 2026 Australian Open, but you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action when the tournament begins on Sunday, January 18.
