Manchester United remain focused under Ruben Amorim as their five-match unbeaten run continues to strengthen belief across the fanbase.

The squad’s sharpness and discipline have been widely praised, with several key players showing renewed confidence as the season gains intensity.

Amorim has stressed the importance of steady progress, and his influence has helped calm much of the uncertainty that surrounded United earlier in the campaign.

The club’s structure off the pitch has also been under the spotlight, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ongoing football overhaul shaping a new long-term identity.

As United push forward, a story has resurfaced that offers a fascinating glimpse into how close the club came to making a very different managerial decision.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has revealed that he held talks with both Chelsea and Manchester United on the same day last year.

Thomas Frank met with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the United co-owner’s garage before heading across London for discussions with Chelsea at a hotel in May 2024, as the Dane revealed in his new book, “Thomas Frank – Dagbog fra Premier League: Historien om Danmarks største trænernavn” (“Thomas Frank – Diary from the Premier League: The story of Denmark’s greatest coaching name”).

United ultimately stuck with Erik ten Hag at the time, only appointing Ruben Amorim months later in November 2024, while Chelsea opted for Enzo Maresca.

Frank, now 52, remained with Brentford for one more season before completing a move to Tottenham in June 2025.

The Dane described that extraordinary day as unlike anything he had ever experienced.

“Sitting down for interviews with two of the 10 biggest clubs in the world, two hours apart, is pretty unique,” he told TV 2 Sport.

“I know I didn’t get either of the two jobs, but it was still a huge deal.

“I remember walking through Battersea Park between the two interviews and thinking: ‘Thomas Frank from Frederiksvaerk – am I really experiencing this?'”

During his time at Brentford, Frank guided the Bees to two top-10 Premier League finishes, establishing himself as one of the league’s most respected coaches.

His transition to Tottenham has come with its own challenges, but he has Spurs sitting in fifth place after 11 games as he adjusts to a new environment and expectations.

He says his seven years in charge at Brentford were “unique” and that establishing himself at Tottenham represents an entirely different stage of his managerial journey.

For United, the revelation adds another layer to the club’s managerial history, showcasing just how many directions the club could have taken before Amorim became the man trusted to lead the new era.
