Tottenham created history last season by ending their long-standing trophy drought and lifting the Europa League against all odds. The Lilywhites overcame Manchester United in the final, with Brennan Johnson’s faint touch proving enough to nudge the ball over the line against the Red Devils. Credit where it is due, Ange Postecoglou stayed true to his promise of delivering silverware in his second season at the club.
The North Londoners have undergone significant changes since that memorable night at N17. Postecoglou has since departed and been replaced by Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician’s arrival generated plenty of excitement, given the impressive work he produced during his time at Brentford. Supporters were hopeful that the club could build on last season’s European success under Frank’s leadership.
The former Brentford boss was quick to state that his side would look to compete on all fronts this season and push for further silverware. However, that ambition has yet to materialise, with Spurs suffering an early exit from the Carabao Cup and enduring a difficult Premier League campaign. They currently sit 14th in the table, having collected just 22 points from their opening 17 league matches.
Tottenham’s struggles in the league have raised concerns among the fanbase at N17. Many supporters have begun to question whether Thomas Frank is the right man to take the club forward. The league table suggests the Lilywhites have taken a step backwards under his guidance, having accumulated fewer points than they did at the same stage last season.
Despite the criticism, Thomas Frank has outlined his ambitions for the new year as he looks to add more trophies to the cabinet at N17. Giving fans a reality check while speaking to Sky Sports, Frank said, opening about his plans:
“I want to build a club that can be competitive in every competition and also on a consistent level. Because that is the biggest challenge. And if you are competitive in every competition, then hopefully along the way you’ll win some of them. To do that is the biggest challenge. Not to make us only Champions League competitors, but we need to be there on a consistent basis and be one of the clubs you can count on.”
Frank is aiming to build a team that can consistently challenge for major honours while remaining competitive across all competitions. The Danish tactician is clear in his desire to win silverware, believing it can only be achieved through sustained competitiveness in every tournament. He wants Tottenham to close the gap on their rivals and compete at the top end of both the Premier League and the Champions League.
For now, Spurs supporters may need to remain patient and give Frank time to steady the ship at N17 before the club can truly compete with Europe’s elite. It is important to remember that the Lilywhites are still in a period of transition, and meaningful change will take time to implement. While progress may not yet be evident, there remains a sense of renewed hope that Tottenham will eventually find a way to add more silverware to their trophy cabinet in the years ahead.
