TalkSPORT pundit backs Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to easily find a new club in January amid Tottenham interest

Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi was the centre of a lot of attention during the summer transfer window amid his saga with Liverpool.

The 25-year-old’s deadline day transfer to Liverpool collapsed at the last minute, after Crystal Palace hit a snag over their skipper’s potential replacement. A deal sheet was submitted to the Premier League prior to the stipulated transfer deadline, with personal terms agreed and a medical completed. But the Eagles dramatically pulled the plug on the deal after their manager Oliver Glasner reportedly threatened to walk away from the club if Marc Guehi was sold.

Guehi has made it clear he will not sign a contract extension at Selhurst Park and chairman Steve Parish wanted a conclusion this summer to avoid losing him for nothing. Now a deal to Liverpool collapsed on the final day of the window, new avenues might open up for the centre-back in the future.

TalkSPORT pundit praises the Crystal Palace star’s professionalism all summer

Guehi’s attitude and professionalism all summer have been top notch amid links to Liverpool and other clubs. Despite wanting to leave, the England international has shown willingness to work at the club while being contracted to the club.

Speaking on the talkSPORT show, Tony Cascarino has showered praises on the Palace star’s professionalism and work ethic. He expects Guehi to easily find a club in January if the Eagles look to cash him in.

“I’m just a delighted a player has honoured his contract […] he didn’t rock any boats, he did what he should have done,” Tony Cascarino said on talkSPORT.

“He made himself available, he was captain at Villa Park [for Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa], and he played his part in their 3-0 victory while also scoring a goal, that’s how it should be, he’s being a professional.

“Player power has got stronger, obviously if your contract is running down and you’re down to one year or you’re in a position where your contract has run out, you have nearly all the power, Marc Guehi could easily sign for a club in January, only four months away.”

Guehi would transform Tottenham’s defence

Tottenham were among the clubs interested in signing Guehi in the summer, having failed to land him during the January transfer window. The Abidjan-born talent’s failed Liverpool move should give Spurs an opportunity to test Palace’s resolve in the next transfer window.

Come January, the England international is set to be available for a fee of just £25 million. It is a 30% discount on the price Arne Slot’s Reds had agreed to pay Palace for the defender’s services. For arguably England’s best defender right now, someone with great leadership skills, work ethic, attitude and professionalism, any club managing to sign him for £25 million in the New Year would land an absolute bargain.

While Liverpool have done the groundwork and will remain favourites for his signature, Spurs must do their best to bring Guehi in as he has the qualities to transform Frank’s defence.
