Micky van de Ven is considered to be a key part of Tottenham’s long-term planning as club hopes to kickstart a new era

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has been one of the standout players for the club following his switch from Wolfsburg in 2023. The Dutchman played a crucial role in ensuring that the Lilywhites ended their long-standing trophy drought last season by winning the Europa League. Not only that, but the 24-year-old has shown time and again why he is one of the first names on the team-sheet at N17.

One of the highlights for Spurs fans last season was Van de Ven’s goal-line clearance in the Europa League final. That crucial intervention on the line etched the Dutchman’s name in the North London club’s history books. And it is fair to say that he will always be remembered for his heroics in Bilbao no matter how his career pans out at N17.

It is fair to say that Thomas Frank also values the 24-year-old a lot. The Danish tactician has started Van de Ven in all the games so far this season, showcasing his trust in the prolific defender. The Dutchman’s partnership with Cristian Romero is one of the best centre-back pairings in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham ready to pull out all stops to retain Micky van de Ven

Tottenham have no intentions of letting their best players leave anytime soon as the club prepares to kickstart a new era at N17. The Lilywhites managed to tie down Cristian Romero to a new long-term contract, proving that they are not messing around anymore and want to maintain their success. And the same shall be done when clubs come knocking for Micky van de Ven’s signature in the coming months.

It was reported earlier that Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Van de Ven, and view the centre-back as an ideal fit for Xabi Alonso’s long-term plans. Not only that, but the La Liga giants have also received a boost in their hopes of signing the Dutchman, as it is believed that Van de Ven has not ruled out a possibility to move to Spain. The report also stated that Spurs value the 24-year-old at around €80m, making it tough for the Spanish giants to land him.

However, there is a new update regarding Van de Ven’s uncertain future at N17. As per TBR Football, Tottenham have no intentions of losing the prolific centre-back anytime soon. Taking notice of that, the Lilywhites are ready to double the Dutchman’s wages and offer him a new contract. The 24-year-old currently earns around £50,000-per-week, and Spurs are willing to double that to retain him for the long-term.

One may suggest that the strong links to Real Madrid might just be driven by Van de Ven’s agents in order to bump up his wages at N17. This is a possibility, and it is fair to say that it might just work out for the prolific centre-back as Spurs cannot afford to lose a talent like him. Fans will hope that the situation is sorted out soon, as the club looks to build on the Europa League success this season.
