Tottenham Hotspur are expecting a busy transfer window regarding both incomings and departures.
The Lilywhites, after a tough season, could make some radical changes to their squad. Despite being the second-highest goal-scorers in the Premier League behind table-toppers Liverpool, Ange Postecoglou’s side have struggled for a consistent source of goals, with Dominic Solanke witnessing a mixed debut season. Son Heung-min is past his prime, while Richarlison’s future remains up in the air. Also, Timo Werner is set to return to RB Leipzig once his loan deal finishes.
So, a striker to compete and cover for Solanke should be targeted in the summer. In addition, a playmaker seemingly appears to be on the agenda following the inconsistent displays of James Maddison.
According to a report from Africa Foot, Tottenham have joined the transfer race for the signing of West Ham United playmaker Mohammed Kudus. He is said to have attracted interest from Spurs’ London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, along with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Ghana international has a contract until 2028 (Transfermarkt) at the London Stadium, with an option for another year. The player is understood to have an £85 million release clause that can be activated this summer. Cash-rich Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr are also interested in the Hammers’ star and have already made an offer of €100 million for his signing this summer.
Mohammed Kudus has had a quiet season as per the high standards he has set in the Premier League since arriving from Ajax in the summer of 2023. The versatile playmaker’s performances have been up and down throughout the campaign, as West Ham continue to languish in the bottom half of the table. Despite being one of the club’s best players, the African ace has just three goals and two assists in 25 Premier League appearances.
The aforementioned report adds Paris Saint-Germain have already made contact with Kudus’ representatives regarding a possible transfer in the forthcoming window. West Ham are aware of the Ghanaian’s impact and potential, and have set a price tag at around €85 million—which is lesser than his mooted release clause.
A player of Kudus’ quality, versatility and class would be a sensational addition to Tottenham’s attacking ranks. With the talent Ange Postecoglou has at his disposal at the top end of the pitch, the ex-Ajax man would flourish and take his game to the next level.
However, given the growing interest in the player and West Ham’s asking price, it looks unlikely Daniel Levy would be able to thrash out a deal for Kudus. And if Ange’s boys fail to win the Europa League and subsequently secure Champions League qualification, then Tottenham fans can forget about this acquisition.
