Tottenham Hotspur are keen to move for Bayer Leverkusen star Piero Hincapie

The defense was one of the areas of their team that Tottenham Hotspur were expected to bolster in this summer transfer window. Spurs have already brought in the likes of Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic, and Kota Takai, but they are seemingly still not done strengthening the center of their backline.

In fact, as per a report from Paul O Keefe, the North London side has already identified another player as their favored target to further bolster their defense. This player is none other than Piero Hincapie, the Bayer Leverkusen defender who has been linked with them for quite some time now.

A difficult operation awaits

The report goes on to mention that Tottenham understand that landing Hincapie would not really be easy for them. They would have to undertake difficult negotiations and then also have to part with a significant chunk of money to land the defender.

However, both Spurs and Thomas Frank see the Ecuadorian as the ideal player to further enhance their defense. It is quite easy to see why this is the sentiment at Tottenham, as Hincapie would bring a lot of quality to the team.

Spurs’ interest is easy to understand

For starters, he is still only 23 years of age, and can be a long-term fixture in the Spurs backline. Furthermore, he has amply shown his technical qualities playing in the Bundesliga. His press-resistance and link-up abilities would allow Thomas Frank’s team to build-up attacks from the back in a composed manner.

Furthermore, the Ecuadorian can be quite aggressive when the situation demands, without being outright reckless. However, one can argue that he is a much more calm and calculating defender, and would not bring a lot sheer aggression in the Tottenham defense.

Overall, Hincapie would be quite an interesting addition to this Spurs team. But the North Londoners still have a lot of work to do before they can land him, and it remains to be seen whether the Ecuadorian would be able to play under Thomas Frank next season.
