Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is certainly a villain in the eyes of the fans. The Englishman has been in control of the decision-making at the club for almost 25 years now and it is fair to say that the Lilywhites have regressed under his leadership. It is now 17 years since Spurs won a major trophy, when they beat rivals Chelsea 2-1 in the League Cup final.
The North London club have come close to challenging for trophies a few times, but they have never gotten over the line and the wait goes on for the fans. This season has also been a disaster for Spurs. Ange Postecoglou’s side sit in the bottom half of the Premier League and are on the way to record their lowest ever points total in the league. It is almost certain that the Lilywhites will miss out on European football next season via the league.
However, there is some hope of ending their trophy drought. Ange’s men find themselves in the Europa League semi-finals and have a great chance of securing Champions League football for next season if they manage to win the competition. It will certainly be a historic feat to achieve and Ange will certainly etch his name in the history books if he manages to win a trophy in his second season at the club.
Tottenham have failed to address a lot of its problems over the years. The fans have grown frustrated with the way the club is managed by Daniel Levy and multiple protests are being held by them against the ownership and the Club chairman. It is now certain that this season will also end in disappointment for the Lilywhites, unless Ange Postecoglou performs a miracle and manages to win the Europa League.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has now given his verdict on Daniel Levy’s tenure at the club. King exclusively told Tottenham News,
“Isn’t Levy the man calling all the shots and paying himself big money? Anyone who is on the kind of money Levy is on, why on earth does he want other people doing his job?”
The former scout added,
“Apparently, he is doing his job well, because he pays himself well. The main part of the football club which has been handled poorly has been the recruitment. The recruitment of players and the recruitment of staff. Isn’t Levy in charge of all of that?”
Bryan King has rightly criticised the decision-making at N17. The ex-Spurs scout questioned Daniel Levy’s leadership and recruitment on and off the pitch. One can see why King is criticising the Tottenham chairman so harshly, as it has been almost two decades since the club won a trophy.
With the summer arriving in a few months, the fans will hope that Levy addresses the problems at the club and handles them swiftly. The Lilywhites are staring down the barrel of a gun right now, but good recruitment and decision-making in the summer will fix all these problems.
