Randal Kolo Muani was the final addition to the Tottenham Hotspur squad during the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old joined Thomas Frank’s side on a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, after a potential return to Juventus collapsed. The France international’s arrival at Spurs has prompted plenty of excitement from the fanbase, who are aware of the forward’s skill-set and quality to produce the goods in the final third.
Randal Kolo Muani made his Tottenham debut in the 1-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League last week. He was introduced off the bench in the 77th minute, as Tottenham edged Villarreal via an own goal from goalkeeper Luiz Junior. The forward was expected to get minutes against Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend, but Thomas Frank left him out of the squad.
The real reason for Kolo Muani’s absence from the Brighton game over the weekend was given by Thomas Frank as a “dead leg” that he had been struggling with “for four or five days”.
After the pulsating 2-2 draw with Brighton, Tottenham are next in action against League One side Doncaster Rovers in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, with Frank hoping to welcome back a couple of his absentees.
Speaking after the game at Brighton, Frank remained “hopeful” that Kolo Muani would be available for the league cup clash against Doncaster Rovers.
“Kolo Muani got a dead leg unfortunately – that kept him out of this game. He was actually struggling with it last week. Hopefully he will be available for Wednesday (Doncaster in the Carabao Cup),” Frank said in the Review Show, via Tottenham official website.
The update given on Kolo Muani’s small injury was a positive one and there is a chance of him featuring in some capacity against Doncaster in midweek. While it doesn’t appear to be a serious issue, with Dominic Solanke is nearing a return to action and Richarlison scoring his third goal in five league games this season, the competition to spearhead the Tottenham attack is only going stronger.
If Kolo Muani fails to recover from a dead leg and cannot get match fit soon, there are chances of him falling down the pecking order. One positive aspect about the player is his versatility, meaning he is comfortable operating off the left flank too.
Considering Wilson Odobert’s poor showing in his first start of the season against Brighton and Brennan Johnson yet to pull up trees playing on the left, Frank may consider trying the 2022 World Cup finalist in that position against Doncaster if he overcomes the dead leg issue.
