Tottenham Hotspur’s season gets underway in just over a week, and Thomas Frank will be hoping to add one or two more new faces to his squad before then.
The new Spurs gaffer has been dealt a significant setback ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with influential playmaker James Maddison set to miss the majority of the season after suffering a serious knee injury. The club’s official statement revealed that the England international has sustained damage to his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in the right knee and will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Furthermore, Spurs must add quality to their wide department, particularly after the exit of Son Heung-min, who has agreed to join MLS club Los Angeles FC after 10 years in England. There remain question marks over the future of Richarlison, while Wilson Odobert is yet to prove himself in a Tottenham shirt.
Losing Son and Maddison (long-term injury) are setbacks for Frank heading into his first season in north London. He recently revealed the Lilywhites are firmly in the market for reinforcements, which would given some relief to the fans. And it looks like Spurs are looking to give their frustrated fans a treat this summer.
Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze has been a coveted commodity this summer, eyed by several Premier League clubs including Tottenham. Spurs’ bitter rivals, Arsenal are also understood to be keen on the England international. In fact, they remain in talks with the player’s agents over a possible deal this summer.
Eberechi Eze had a fantastic 2024/25 campaign with the Eagles and played a key role in their FA Cup success. He most notably scored in the FA Cup final as Crystal Palace beat Manchester City 1-0 in May. But the expectation has been that the 27-year-old is set to leave Selhurst Park this summer. As a deal with Arsenal has not materialised thus far, it has given Spurs a window of opportunity to swoop in now.
According to The Independent journalist Miguel Delaney (h/t GIVEMESPORT), Tottenham could reignite their interest and hijack Arsenal’s move for Eze after Maddison’s serious knee injury.
The versatile attacker’s £68m release clause expired at the start of the month, but that has not deterred Tottenham from testing Palace’s resolve. They are in desperate need of a creative force, as in addition to Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski remains injured and will miss the opening weeks of the new season. Thus, summer signing Mohammed Kudus is expected to shoulder the creative burden of Frank’s team.
Eze, in that regard, would be a smashing fit at Tottenham. At 27, he is entering the prime stages of his career and could make an immediate impact for Frank’s Spurs side. Daniel Levy and Johan Lange must make a good pitch to the Palace star and his agents about the club’s sporting project and vision to succeed in the coming years.
if the England international gets enticed to our project and decides to reject Arsenal’s advances, it would be extremely sweet for our fans.
