Tottenham Hotspur need to bring in defensive reinforcements in the summer. The Lilywhites have struggled with inconsistency and injuries at the back, and that has disrupted the club’s domestic campaign. The North London club has managed to keep just six clean sheets in the Premier League, letting in a staggering 57 goals during that time.
Spurs are within touching distance of winning the Europa League. Ange Postecoglou’s men have reached the final and they take on Manchester United for the trophy. Winning the competition would prove to be decisive for the Lilywhites as they would qualify for Champions League football next season. That would also mean that the North London club would be able to sign new players in the summer.
Ange Postecoglou’s men have endured a lot of injuries this season. Key defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have missed crucial games for the club, and that has impacted the performances on the pitch. Backup defender Radu Dragusin has also endured an ACL injury which has ruled him out for several months. Due to this, the Lilywhites have been forced to play inexperienced players at the back.
Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen is the talk of the town in recent weeks. The Spain international is having a brilliant season with the Cherries, and it is certain that the youngster will be on the move in the summer. Top clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are keeping tabs on the centre-back and want to add him to their ranks.
Now, ex-Spurs scout Mick Brown has suggested that Tottenham have also entered the race to sign Huijsen. Brown told Football Insider,
“Dean Huijsen is a top player and he’s got a lot more to come. He’s got all the ingredients to become a world-class player and he’s had a terrific season. You’ve got Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea all having a look at him.”
The former Spurs scout added,
“So as far as Tottenham’s interest goes, they might have to do some convincing. He would be perfect alongside Van de Ven in their defence. There’s no reason he wouldn’t join them if they can get into the Champions League, but you have to feel there are other clubs ahead of them.”
Mick Brown has suggested that Dean Huijsen will be the subject of interest for many top clubs in the summer. The former Spurs scout also insisted that Tottenham would need to do some convincing if they want to add the Spain international to their ranks. Brown also pointed out that Huijsen would fit in perfectly alongside Micky van de Ven and there would be no reason why the 20-year-old would reject Tottenham if they qualify for the Champions League.
Tottenham need to find a replacement for the outgoing Cristian Romero. The Argentina international is heading for the exit doors at N17 as Atletico Madrid edge closer to signing him. Romero admitted in a recent interview that he wants to play in Spain soon, and that has not certainly not gone down well with the club.
Spurs should shift their focus on Dean Huijsen and focus on bringing him to the club. The Spain international has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League this season. As per Sofascore, the 20-year-old has managed to play 33 games in all competition, scoring three goals and providing one assist. Huijsen has also kept eight clean sheets and has an 85% passing accuracy for the Cherries.
The centre-back will fit in perfectly at Tottenham. Dean Huijsen is great on the ball, tends to create chances from the back, and carries the ball forward to link-up play with the midfielders. The ex-Juventus player has good leap and can play in a high line. He would be a perfect replacement of Cristian Romero. The Bournemouth star also tends to play long diagonals after inviting pressure and drawing out a press.
