Tottenham Hotspur are among several European clubs interested in signing Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller

Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a fruitful summer transfer window, signing seven players to compound on their last season’s UEFA Europa League success. They did manage to address the defensive midfield spot, with new gaffer Thomas Frank snapping up Joao Palhinha on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich.

Joao Palhinha has hit the ground running at Spurs, quickly becoming one of the first names on Thomas Frank’s team sheet. This has pushed Yves Bissouma further down the midfield pecking order. Into the final year of his contract, Bissouma has been linked with an exit from N17 all throughout the summer. The Mali international could yet end up leaving the Lilywhites, with the Turkish window still open at this stage.

With Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr the current starters, and young Lucas Bergvall also an option, Thomas Frank has enough in his squad to get by now. However, the Dane could do with another strong option in the engine room in the long term.

Tottenham among clubs interested in Stuttgart star

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are among big Premier League clubs monitoring Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller. Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are also in the mix, while Real Madrid are considered possible contenders for the German too.

Angelo Stiller has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga. Thanks to his passing range, technique, work rate and vision, the 24-year-old has emerged on the radar of several European bigwigs. The Stuttgart star was linked with a move to Manchester United during the closing stages of the summer window, once it became clear that they would not be able to sign Brighton & Hove Albion talent Carlos Baleba. However, the Red Devils were unable to get a deal over the line before the deadline.

The central midfielder has a €40million release clause at Stuttgart, which will be activated in 2026. However, the aforementioned report adds that the Bundesliga club holds the option to buy it out for a mere €2million, a move that could ‘complicate negotiations for the suitors.’ While a January move isn’t ruled out, a move in the summer of 2026 appears more plausible.

Stiller would be an instant upgrade on Bissouma

Stiller has proven himself in the Bundesliga and there are no qualms that he is good enough to play for any Premier League club.

The Germany international could prove to be an excellent long-term addition for Spurs, lifting the technical flooring of their midfield unit. The German’s versatility, coupled with his passing ability and reading of the game, would make him a strong addition Frank’s hard-working engine room. The ex-Bayern Munich man would be an instant upgrade on Bissouma, whose days in a Spurs shirt appear numbered.

The likes of Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid are all direct threat to the Lilywhites’ plans, so it will be interesting to see whether we test Stuttgart’s resolve in January or wait until the end of the season to make a move for Stiller.
