Tottenham are one of several European clubs interested in signing Atalanta star Ademola Lookman

Tottenham Hotspur have finally made their presence felt in the summer transfer window.

After youngster Kota Takai was brought in from J-League club Kawasaki Frontale, Spurs completed the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United earlier this week. The signing of Kudus has raised the excitement levels within the fanbase, who were left frustrated with the lack of transfer activity since the window began on June 1.

Now, that the right flank is covered, the North Londoners must shift their focus on opposite wing. They need a productive wide left forward that could replace Son Heung-min next season. Son endured a frustrating last season as his fitness levels dipped, impacting his performances massively.

With the South Korean turning 33 earlier this month and into the final year of his contract, it would be sensible for the club to cash him in now rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in 2026. And as he has no shortage of suitors, Spurs must grab the opportunity with both hands and move him on.

Atalanta star on the Lilywhites’ radar

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are among several with an interest in signing Atalanta attacker Ademola Lookman. Arsenal, West Ham United, Newcastle United and Napoli are all keen on the player.

After previously failing to cut the mustard in the Premier League during his spells at clubs like Everton, Fulham and Leicester City, Ademola Lookman has found a home at Atalanta. He has managed to resurrect his career in Bergamo, becoming a key player for the club.

The Nigerian international played a crucial role in Atalanta’s 2023-24 Europa League triumph, becoming the first player in the competition’s history to score a hat-trick in a final in a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. The 27-year-old was nominated for the Ballon d’Or last year amid a fantastic season, which saw him score 17 goals and supply 10 assists in 45 games across competitions. Lookman reproduced such form this past season despite a tumultuous time at Atalanta when he fell out with former boss Gian Piero Gasperini over a missed penalty incident.

The aforementioned report adds Atalanta value their star forward at around €50m.

Should Tottenham go for Ademola Lookman?

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to add more firepower up front after enduring a disastrous domestic campaign. If Son stays, they will need a new player that would keep him on his toes, as well as, replace Richarlison in the squad as the Brazilian is linked with a potential exit.

Lookman, in that regard, would be an ideal fit at N17. Capable of playing on the left flank and centrally too, the Atalanta ace would certainly enhance Tottenham’s attacking options and add to their quality depth. Due to his speed, directness, flair and dribbling ability, he’d be a dangerous option to bring off the bench against tiring defenders.

At 27 and well into the peak of his powers, Spurs must give Lookman a chance to prove his detractors wrong in the Premier League.
