Tottenham Hotspur finally managed to break the jinx and win its first major trophy in 17 years last month under Ange Postecoglou’s management. They won the Europa League against all the odds, salvaging an otherwise disastrous 2024/25 season to some extent.
However, that was not enough for Ange Postecoglou to hold onto his job and continue his project in North London. Daniel Levy decided to part ways with the Australian last week and is now closing in on the appointment of Thomas Frank as his successor. A wily, experienced tactician having managed Brentford for more than seven years, Thomas Frank will be expected to hit the ground running at Spurs right away.
The Danish tactician is certain to have his say on the transfer wheeling and dealings at White Hart Lane. And amid their hunt for midfield reinforcements, Tottenham could step into the mix to sign a highly-rated Premier League talent.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Manchester City cooling their interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White could see Spurs now come into focus for his signature.
Heading into the summer transfer window, Manchester City had Morgan Gibbs-White as one of their prime targets to replace the mercurial Kevin de Bruyne. However, the Sky Blues decided to recruit French talent Rayan Cherki from Lyon earlier this week as a potential De Bruyne replacement, thereby, cooling down interest in the Nottingham Forest playmaker.
It is understood that the Pep Guardiola-managed club were put off by Nottingham Forest’s £70million valuation of the England international. Gibbs-White’s stock has skyrocketed following a strong season at the City Ground, helping Forest achieve a UEFA Europa Conference League berth. He registered seven goals and 10 assists in 34 league appearances, forming an unbelievable partnership with Forest’s front three of Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood.
Now, the aforementioned report claims Man City apparently ending their interest in Gibbs-White could prompt him to sign a new deal at Forest with a release clause or leave for a club competing in the Champions League. To that end, Tottenham have emerged as the midfielder’s potential destination.
A player of Gibbs-White’s talent, potential, experience and versatility could make him a sensational addition to the Lilywhites’ roster. Capable of playing in multiple positions across the engine room, the ex-Wolves man possesses the quality to unlock defences with his vision and technical ability whilst having bundles of energy to burn off the ball. This would make him a fantastic fit in Frank’s system.
The England international could be tempted to play in the Champions League and showcase his talent at the big stage. Tottenham would be able to offer that platform next season, at least. Valued at £70million, Levy must make a statement across the top flight by signing Gibbs-White from Forest.
