Tottenham have an alternative option if they fail to register Savinho before the Premier League’s Friday deadline for their season opener against Brentford.
Tottenham Hotspur are in the transfer market for forward signings late in the window, having added defensive and midfield cover early on this summer. Manchester City winger Savinho is one of their top priorities, with a move for Liverpool star Cody Gakpo also on the cards.
Savinho endured a rough last season at the Etihad Stadium. A combination of injuries and intense competition for places meant the 22-year-old struggled for regular minutes under former Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
The Brazilian international has been on Tottenham’s radar since last year. After the Sky Blues blocked a move in 2025, Spurs are determined to land Savinho this summer. The N17 bosses have been in talks with Manchester City over a deal for the winger for the last couple of months, but an agreement has yet to be found.
Savinho was left out against Arsenal for the Community Shield game at the weekend, but it was not due to transfer-related reasons. He was ill, and new Man City boss Enzo Maresca decided not to include him in his squad for the Community Shield game on Sunday.
With Tottenham commencing their new Premier League campaign on Saturday evening against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, De Zerbi is running out of time to get a deal for Savinho agreed. However, with negotiations dragging on, the Spurs boss may bank on an in-house alternative solution.
According to a report from The Standard, Tottenham may have to rely on academy talent Mikey Moore when they face Brentford in their season opener.
Mikey Moore has enjoyed a strong pre-season campaign. The wide attacker scored a brace in Tottenham’s 3-0 friendly win over Hoffenheim on Saturday. He is still widely expected to leave on loan this summer, with FC Koln keen on his services.
The German club are understood to be waiting for Tottenham’s approval before the transfer can proceed. This means Moore’s proposed move to FC Koln has been delayed. De Zerbi is reportedly blocking the deal from being finalised until the club add attacking reinforcements. The Italian boss is said to want another attacking signing in place before sanctioning the loan.
It is clear Tottenham’s attacking plans are holding up Moore’s move to FC Koln from being finalised. That leaves the young English talent’s future in limbo, although the Bundesliga club still expect the player to arrive. Nonetheless, if Savinho does not arrive quickly and the Lilywhites fail to register him before the Premier League’s Friday 12pm BST deadline for a player to then be eligible for Saturday action, there is every chance of Moore staying and featuring against Brentford in west London.
