Tottenham look set to miss out on Antoine Semenyo in the summer

Tottenham Hotspur have reached the Europa League semi-finals this season. The Lilywhites have managed to exceed expectations and deliver a memorable result for Spurs fans to keep their hopes of winning silverware alive. With the club enduring a tough Premier League campaign, it is only fair to say that no one expected them to go this far in Europe. But Ange Postecoglou’s side have stepped up to the occasion and helped the club reach their first European semi-final in six years.

It has been a funny season for the North London club. Ange’s men are in the bottom half of the Premier League, registering 17 losses in the league this season. At one point, the club also faced the prospect of entering a relegation battle. But that did not stop the Lilywhites from performing brilliantly in Europe and getting a step closer to ending a 17-year-long wait for winning a major trophy.

However, the real problems at the club still persist and Daniel Levy will need to address them quickly. The amazing result in the Europa League should not distract the club from the fact that a major overhaul is needed quickly in the summer. The Lilywhites have a lot of underperforming players who need to be moved on quickly so that new players can join.

Tottenham behind in the race to sign Antoine Semenyo

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has already started targeting players for next season. Spurs need a structural reset and new players will have to come in quickly for that. With the club sitting 15th in the Premier League, it is fair to say that most of the players in the squad are not good enough and need to be sold in the summer.

Spurs are willing to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in the summer. The Lilywhites are said to be long-term admirers of the player and are willing to bring him to N17 for next season. However, it is worth noting that the Cherries have set a high price tag for the 25-year-old and are not willing to lose him easily.

Bournemouth value Semenyo at £70m and are looking to get that amount in the summer if any club is willing to buy the versatile player. Tottenham also face a stumbling block in their hopes to sign the Ghana international. The Lilywhites are not the only club in the race for the 25-year-old. Manchester United are said to be leading the pack to sign Semenyo and it looks more likely that the ex-Bristol City player will join the Red Devils.

Will Semenyo fit in at Tottenham?

Antoine Semenyo is enjoying a stellar campaign at Bournemouth. The versatile forward has helped the Cherries climb up the Premier League table and compete for the European spots for next season. He is also an instrumental part of Andoni Iraola’s team and he is one of the first names on the team sheet.

As per Sofascore, Semenyo has played 36 games in all competitions this season, scoring ten goals and providing five assists. The Ghana international has also played in different positions in the attacking line. He has managed to register 44 key passes this season and created 12 big chances for his teammates.

So, should Tottenham go all-in for him? That is tough to answer. The versatile forward will fit in perfectly at N17 under Ange Postecoglou. Semenyo’s ability to play anywhere in the front line effectively is certainly what Ange Postecoglou’s team needs. But the value that Bournemouth have set for him seems to be high and Tottenham should rather consider looking at other players to save up cash for other positions.
