Tottenham Hotspur star Dejan Kulusevski would be interested in a return to Serie A

There have been only a handful of positives in a gloomy campaign for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur. One of them is Dejan Kulusevski.

Dejan Kulusevski has undergone a massive transformation from an inconsistent winger to a dangerous attacking midfielder. He has performed well in Ange Postecoglou’s high-pressing and attacking system, thriving in various roles across midfield and the wide department.

The Sweden international’s eye-catching displays in a Tottenham shirt have not gone unnoticed. Former Spurs boss Antonio Conte reportedly wants to reunite with the 24-year-old at Napoli. He has told the Napoli hierarchy to make the signing of Dejan Kulusevski one of the summer’s priorities, as he looks to rebuild his squad further.

Now, as per former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers scout Mick Brown, Kulusevski is open to a return to Italy after leaving Juventus in January 2022. He is interested in a move to AC Milan, who are keen to strengthen their options this summer in the wake of a massively disappointing 2024/25 campaign. Tottenham, however, are reluctant to let the Scandinavian talent leave as they view him as a crucial part of their plans moving forward.

“Kulusevski is one who could leave this summer,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.

“I think a lot of the players are frustrated with the way the season has gone at Tottenham. Whenever I’ve seen them play, he has been one of if not their best player, so they’re not going to want to lose him unless a really big offer comes in.

“I hear a couple of the Italian clubs have been looking at him – AC Milan and Napoli. It’s a league and a country he knows after his time with Juventus, so a return might suit him. I think he’s going to be interested in those moves should the opportunity arise for him.

“It’s definitely one I think will be feasible even if Tottenham don’t want to let him leave, because he will want to continue playing at the highest level. He’s certainly good enough to do it, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go.”

Kulusevski has been a productive figure in Ange’s side this season. He has scored seven goals and set up a further four in 27 Premier League matches, but the Lilywhites continue to struggle as they sit 14th in the table.

The playmaker has a contract at N17 until the summer of 2028 (Transfermarkt), so they hold the power in any negotiations that may be attempted by his suitors—Milan and Napoli—during the forthcoming transfer window. The Hotspur Way chiefs are determined to keep hold of the Sweden skipper. However, only offers well in the north of £50million could change their minds.

At 24, Kulusevski’s best years are well and truly ahead of him. The ex-Juventus man is a valuable long-term asset for Tottenham, and given how he has evolved into a central midfielder and brought consistency to his game, we must do our best to retain his services. That wouldn’t be simple, though, as the Swede wants to spend the best years of his career playing in the Champions League and competing for trophies regularly, which we haven’t been doing enough.
