Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to accelerate their summer transfer plans in a bid to improve their Premier League form next season.
Spurs are closing in on Mohammed Kudus deal, having reportedly agreed a fee in the region of £55m with West Ham United. They have beefed up their defensive options by signing Japanese youngster Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale.
The Lilywhites also have some key players who have been attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Cristian Romero has been heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in recent months. Fellow defender Destiny Udogie has emerged as a target for AC Milan of late.
Milan have set their sights on Udogie to replace Theo Hernandez, who has left for the Saudi Pro League. The Italian left-back is also reportedly open to joining Milan this summer. Udogie has been Tottenham’s first-choice left-back for the last two seasons, a key member of their backline. So, if he decides to push for a move back to Serie A, Daniel Levy will have to replace him in Thomas Frank’s squad.
Recent reports suggest Tottenham have been closely monitoring the situation of Borussia Monchengladbach left-back Lukas Ullrich.
Lukas Ullrich moved to Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer from Hertha Berlin in 2023. The 2024/25 turned out to be his breakout season at Borussia Monchengladbach, as he registered three goal contributions in 26 Bundesliga appearances. The left-back also performed well for Germany in the recently concluded European Under-21 Championships, thereby, further enhancing his stock.
Now, according to a report from German publication Bild, Gladbach could be forced to sell Ullrich to fund their own summer targets in a big boost for Spurs. Spanish side Valencia are also interested in the 21-year-old.
Just like Tottenham unearthed a gem in Udogie when they plucked him from Udinese in 2022, Ullrich could be worth the gamble. The German is young, dynamic, tenacious and attacking, which makes him a decent potential option to replace Udogie.
At 21, the Gladbach man is nowhere near the finished product and has a lot to develop, and someone like Frank would be the ideal manager to help iron out the flaws in his game if he joins Tottenham. With the Bundesliga club struggling financially, Tottenham have the best opportunity to take advantage of their situation and get the talented Ullrich on a bargain fee this summer.
