Injury expert advises Tottenham to take a closer look at AC Milan star Rafael Leao’s muscle injury record before making a move
Los Angeles FC are advancing in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min. The 33-year-old is into the final year of his contract, and the Lilywhites are willing to cash him in this summer.
Although last season proved extremely disappointing for the North Londoners in the Premier League as they finished just a spot above the relegation zone, Son Heung-min lifted his first piece of silverware at the club as Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final and subsequently qualified for the Champions League.
However, the South Korea international’s future at N17 remains uncertain, with new head coach Thomas Frank having already greenlighted his exit. Los Angeles FC have been the most interested party in recent weeks, trying to secure the forward’s signature for the second half of the MLS season and beyond.
If Son departs along with Mikey Moore, who is attracting loan interest from Rangers, Spurs will require reinforcements on the left-hand side of their attack, as Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel won’t be enough to cover all the games across four competitions.
As per reliable journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham are interested in AC Milan winger Rafael Leao and could move for him if Son ends up departing this summer.
Rafael Leao can play on the left flank, as a false nine, and behind the striker, and he was of the few bright spots for AC Milan in an otherwise disappointing 2024/25 campaign. The Portugal international has been enjoying a fine pre-season and was on fire in AC Milan’s 4-2 win over Liverpool last week, scoring a fine goal.
The 26-year-old played 50 games across all competitions last season, although he did miss three matches due to a muscle injury. To avoid any potential complications, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar feels Tottenham will look at Leao’s muscular injury history minutely before making a final decision.
“Spurs may take a closer look at his muscular injuries, particularly if his recent muscular injury is hamstring-related,” Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.
“This may have short and mid-term ramifications, so they’ll have to decide based on that.
“He played 34 league games last season, so that’s impressive, and he’s most likely not to have any injury-related red flags ahead of the transfer.”
Without a shadow of doubt, Leao would be a smashing signing for Spurs, injecting flair, pace and directness to their attack. At 26, the Milan star is at the peak of his powers and would be an upgrade on the ageing Son on the left of Tottenham’s attack. His work rate off the ball and pressing perfectly suit Thomas Frank’s system.
Leao would enhance the North Londoners’ squad, as well as bring his winning ability and European pedigree to the club. However, Spurs would need to break the bank to secure his signing as the Portuguese trickster still has three years left on his contract and Milan are in no rush to sell arguably their best player this year.
