Tottenham Hotspur are totally focused on trying to secure their Premier League status. If they go down, there would inevitably be a player exodus as they look to avoid a season in the Championship.
Spurs have invested heavily in young talent in recent years, and despite tasting mixed success, they could continue the same recruitment pattern in the summer transfer window. The North Londoners require a rebuild after back-to-back disastrous domestic campaigns, which is why adding to the pool of prodigious talent may not be a bad idea.
As well as looking to bolster the wide department, as evidenced by interest in West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville, Tottenham want to add new defensive options for new boss Roberto De Zerbi.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are one of the Premier League clubs to have made checks on Blackburn Rovers youngster Tom Atcheson in recent weeks. Manchester United, Newcastle United, Sunderland, Everton, Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion have all been monitoring his progress at Blackburn Rovers.
A product of the Blackburn Rovers academy, Tom Atcheson only made his Championship debut in December 2025 and has quickly established himself as a regular under coach Michael O’Neill, underlining his meteoric rise within the squad. The centre-back has made seven appearances in the Championship thus far, whilst also earning his full international debut for Northern Ireland last month.
The Championship club has quickly secured the teenager’s future by recently tying him down to a new contract. Despite that, clubs from the Premier League and Europe have continued to keep tabs on Atcheson, who has drawn comparisons with former Rovers defender Phil Jones. In fact, Jones has been acting as a mentor and working closely with Atcheson.
Tottenham must consider going for Atcheson regardless of whether they stay up or not, believing he is one of the best young defenders emerging from the Championship, but there is a catch – given that he recently signed a long-term contract, Rovers could demand a premium. A ball-playing defender, the Northern Irishman is known for his calmness on the ball, breaking lines by either carrying or passing the ball forward.
There is speculation surrounding the futures of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at White Hart Lane, but with Luka Vuskovic set to return on loan from HSV Hamburg at the end of the season, a move for Atcheson could future-proof Tottenham’s backline in the event of exits this summer.
