Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a January move for Real Sociedad star Brais Mendez

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Real Sociedad midfielder Brais Méndez as a potential January signing, with Thomas Frank keen to bolster his attacking options mid-season. The Spanish international has been a consistent performer in La Liga and could provide Spurs with the creativity and end product they currently lack in the final third.

Why Spurs want Méndez

Frank has made an encouraging start at Spurs, but he is not blind to the gaps in his squad. The long-term injury to James Maddison has left the North London side short of a reliable attacking midfielder, and while new arrival Xavi Simons has shown promise, the manager is pushing for another proven option.

Méndez, 28, has the pedigree to step straight into Tottenham’s system. A product of Celta Vigo’s academy, he joined Real Sociedad in 2022 and has become a key figure for the Basque side. His ability to create chances and chip in with goals in both La Liga and the Champions League makes him an attractive option for Spurs, who are desperate to add more cutting edge in the attacking third.

Spurs Prepared to Test Sociedad’s resolve

Tottenham’s interest in Méndez appears serious. According to Fichajes, Spurs are ready to put forward a significant bid, potentially in the region of €30–40 million. While Sociedad are reluctant to lose one of their cornerstones, financial pressure could open the door if Spurs present a convincing package.

With Méndez tied down until 2028, this won’t be a straightforward deal. However, Tottenham have shown a willingness to back Frank’s vision, and landing an experienced, battle-tested playmaker in January could prove decisive in their push for a top-four finish and a strong European run.

From a Tottenham point of view, Méndez would be a superb fit. He brings technical quality, experience at the highest level, and the sort of reliability that Spurs need in Maddison’s absence. At 28, he is in his prime and could offer an immediate upgrade to Frank’s attacking setup without disrupting the club’s long-term vision.

Yes, €40 million is a hefty price tag, but Tottenham cannot afford to hesitate if they are serious about maintaining momentum this season. With Arsenal and Liverpool strengthening year after year, adding Méndez would send a clear message: Spurs are ready to compete, not just survive, at the top end of the table.
