Tottenham Hotspur are trying to move on from Yves Bissouma and see Conor Gallagher as an upgrade

2024/25 was a memorable season for us. Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester United in the Europa League final to secure a Champions League berth, that, too, when some people did not want us to reach this level. New manager Thomas Frank came in this summer, and is looking to rebuild the club with strictness, intelligence and passion. The arrival of players like Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel clearly show that the club no longer just want to be in the race for the top four, but want to keep winning trophies.

The last few years have been bumpy for Tottenham. Antonio Conte’s strategy worked for some time, but the club remained far from stability. With the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, the playing style became sharper, but they continued to struggle in the Premier League. Now under the leadership of Thomas Frank, the team will look to get the balance. The plan ahead is clear – strengthen the attack and add quality to the midfield, and in this direction, some tough decisions can be taken.

Interest in Gallagher, Bissouma’s departure is near

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are now thinking of selling Yves Bissouma. There is a heated discussion within the club about whether the midfield is currently a bit weak. Pete O’Rourke made it clear that the club’s next step is to bring an England midfielder. Signs of the talks point towards Conor Gallagher. According to him, the Englishman has the energy, pace, and technical qualities that will make him fit into Frank’s strategy, and Spurs are considering him as an upgrade to Bissouma.

“I’m not surprised that Tottenham are looking at [Gallagher] to try and bolster that midfield.”

“It seems more than likely that Yves Bissouma could be moved on, and that midfield at Tottenham is a bit light right now.

“So, they could be looking for options to strengthen it, and Conor Gallagher would tick a lot of boxes.”

Some people within the club believe that Gallagher is a more effective player than the Mali international. Spurs are looking at him as a player who can bring pace and ball control in midfield. However, it is not clear yet whether Bissouma will be directly sold with the arrival of Gallagher or not, but the indications are that a change in midfield is certain. There were reports earlier that we covered that Spurs will struggle to sell the Mali midfielder.

The truth is that the 28-year-old has disappointed Tottenham so far. He has never been as dominant as he was at Brighton. Bissouma has lost the ball, made poor passes and simply doesn’t fit into Frank’s plans. Gallagher is more direct, quicker in pressing and more effective around the goal. A manager like Frank needs a midfielder who can move the ball around and not just create momentum.

If Spurs can bring in Conor Gallagher, it would be a bold but sensible move. He is young, Premier League-ready and has proven himself after playing regularly at Chelsea. The only question is, are Spurs willing to spend big money on the 25-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder? Gallagher will cost at least £40million. If so, we need a player like the Englishman—someone who not only strengthens the team, but also has the power to change the complexion of the match. We definitely feel him to be an upgrade, but it will be interestinng to see if Spurs can sell Bissouma or not.
