Manchester United have continued to put greater emphasis on recruiting young talent alongside their first-team rebuild.

The club made several major senior additions this summer, but their work in the academy has also been notable.

One of the more interesting moves saw United raid Tottenham for highly-rated winger Tynan Thompson.

The 18-year-old arrived in July after scoring 13 goals and providing 6 assists for Spurs’ youth sides last season, including 7 goals in 7UEFA Youth League matches.

Thompson was not the only Spurs youngster to attract attention from United, with the club continuing to monitor the development of several players across the Premier League.

United have increasingly looked for players who can be developed rather than relying solely on expensive established stars.

That approach has now led them towards another Tottenham academy product, with Manchester United among the clubs vying for Luca Williams-Barnett.

According to Sky Sports Germany, as relayed by The Spurs Web, United have made initial enquires on a potential deal.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has been with Spurs since joining their academy at Under-10 level after previously playing for Luton Town.

He became one of the standout players in Tottenham’s youth system, recording 37 goal involvements in 32 Under-18 appearances and 15 in 12 Under-21 matches, according to reports.

Luca Williams-Barnett also produced one of the most eye-catching moments of his development when he scored 5 goals in a single UEFA Youth League match against Slavia Prague in December 2025.

That came after he had already scored a hat-trick for Tottenham’s Under-21s against Leicester earlier in the campaign.

His senior breakthrough arrived in September 2025, when he came off the bench during Tottenham’s 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Doncaster Rovers.

He has since found opportunities at senior level difficult to come by, making only one further appearance despite his impressive record in the academy.

That lack of first-team football is reportedly behind his desire to seek a new challenge, despite Tottenham tying him down to a contract until 2028.

Sky Germany reports that Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the England Under-19 international, while Chelsea and Manchester City are competing with United for his signature.

With Dortmund, Bayern, Chelsea and City also watching his situation, United would face significant competition if Williams-Barnett does decide to leave north London.
