Tottenham suffer blow as Ben Davies forced off with injury during Wales vs Belgium World Cup qualifier on Monday

The international break has not been overly kind to Thomas Frank and Tottenham Hotspur, with another player picking up what looked to be an injury on Monday night.

Yves Bissouma, who has missed the start of Spurs’ season with a knee injury, but has been stepping up his recovery of late and was able to be called up by Mali. The central midfielder was deemed fit enough to make his first appearances of the 2025/26 campaign on Sunday when Mali hosted Madagascar and came on as a second-half substitute in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury moments after coming on the pitch and had to be stretchered off.

It looks as though the Mali international will be sidelined for a significant chunk, though the full details of an ankle injury is yet to be released. On Monday night, Thomas Frank saw another Tottenham player go down with an injury.

Ben Davies forced off with injury on international duty

It was a historic night for Ben Davies on Monday as he won his 100th cap for Wales against Belgium in a World Cup Qualifier. By doing so, the Tottenham defender joined Chris Gunter, Gareth Bale and Wayne Hennessey in the 100-cap club. The versatile defender has been a mainstay of the Wales national team since his debut back in 2012, featuring in three major tournaments.

Ben Davies proudly led Wales out against Belgium, but the night ended in disappointment. Not only did Wales lose 4-2 at the Cardiff City Stadium, but also a report from The Hayters TV claims that the 32-year-old was forced off on 72 minutes after going down injured. The severity of the Spurs star’s injury is yet to be known.

The veteran defender is now into the final year of his contract at N17. He is yet to play a competitive minute for Frank’s Tottenham side. Davies, who is now the longest-serving and most experienced player in the Spurs squad after Son Heung-min’s departure, missed a few games due to injury this season.

Given the competition in the defensive ranks, the Welshman is unlikely to receive much game time as the season progresses. Yet, Davies remains a valuable member of the squad and his importance was further reflected when Frank decided to include him in the five-man leadership group.

The Tottenham gaffer and our fans will hope the injury Davies sustained against Belgium isn’t serious and he becomes available for the tough upcoming games.
