Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has had to deal with several injury issues so far this season.
A glut of injuries to key stars have blunted Spurs’ edge in recent games—barring the Manchester City game. They destroyed Man City 4-0 away before drawing to AS Roma and Fulham in the Europa League and Premier League respectively.
The Lilywhites have not been able to find consistency due to injury problems, but there could finally be some good news coming the fans’ way now.
Cristian Romero is set to train with his teammates this week and it has been revealed that the centre-back being in Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the game against Bournemouth on Thursday evening is a possibility. After the 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday, even the Spurs gaffer hinted at the 2022 World Cup winner’s potential availability.
However, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar thinks Cristian Romero is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes against the Cherries. He adds how the Argentinean international responds in training after returning from injury will determine how long he lasts in midweek.
“How he responds to training will be the key”, Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Whether that’s his pain and discomfort level, movement, and/or confidence on the pitch.
“Playing 90 minutes is unlikely given he’s been out for a month.
“Postecoglou recently said that he wasn’t back in training so he’ll obviously need to train well over the coming days.”
Romero has been out since mid-November with a knee problem. His last game in a Spurs shirt was the 2-1 defeat to newly promoted Ipswich Town. Despite carrying an injury, the 26-year-old had teamed up with the national during the November international. He managed only 45 minutes in Argentina’s 2-1 defeat to Paraguay before the national team camp decided to not involve him against Peru and send him back to the club early.
The Cordoba-born star has been working hard behind the scenes to recover fully and make himself available to Big Ange, who has been without his preferred centre-back pair over the last few fixtures. Romero and Micky van de Ven’s unavailability have left the 59-year-old with only Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin as options in central defence.
With just one win in the last five outings across all competitions, the need for Romero and Van de Ven’s return to the side is more crucial than ever before for Big Ange and Tottenham.
