Tottenham Hotspur have earned a lot of plaudits for their recruitment strategy in recent years. The Lilywhites have focused on bringing talented youngsters to North London, and develop them into potential world-class players. This has made Spurs one of the best teams in England in terms of developing youngsters and giving them a chance in the first team.

However, the fans have been feeling frustrated as the results on the pitch have not improved. The Lilywhites are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. There is an argument to be made that Tottenham should focus on signing experienced players, so that the immediate results on the pitch start improving.

The North London club is facing a massive overhaul in the summer. Many key players are expected to leave the club once the season ends. Daniel Levy will need to cash in on underperforming players to generate funds for new signings. It remains to be seen how the Spurs chairman will deal with the crisis Tottenham find themselves in.

Tottenham are expecting many players to leave the club in the summer. Richarlison is linked with a move back to Everton and it is believed that the Brazil international will be allowed to leave N17 once the season ends. Along with him, Timo Werner is also set to leave the club once his loan deal ends. The Lilywhites decided not to make the German winger’s deal permanent as Werner has fallen down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.

Now, Spurs are interested in signing James McAtee from Manchester City. The 22-year-old has not enjoyed a lot of game time this season under Pep Guardiola. The Englishman is said to be open for pastures new as he seeks to play regularly in the Premier League and make an impact for a team.

McAtee has twelve months left in his Man City contract, so the Cityzens will look to cash in on the versatile forward this summer instead of letting him go for free next year. The reigning Premier League champions value McAtee at around €25-30 million. Also, Tottenham are not the only ones vying for the Englishman’s signature. Nottingham Forest and Bayer Leverkusen have also joined the race to sign the 22-year-old.

How will James McAtee fit in at Tottenham?

James McAtee is an ideal fit for Tottenham. The Manchester City starlet is versatile and can operate as a winger, or a number ten. The 22-year-old can get past defenders with ease and tends to create chances for his teammates. McAtee prefers to play on the right, and he likes to cut in and take a shot from long range. His close-control is also excellent and the Man City forward prefers to linkup with teammates to beat the press.

The talented forward would also provide good cover for James Maddison. With Spurs needing a creative forward in their ranks to ease Maddison’s workload, signing James McAtee would be the perfect move. He is also available for a good price. The Lilywhites just need to ensure that they qualify for Champions League football next season. This would put them in the driving seat for McAtee’s signature.
