Tottenham Hotspur have made progress under Thomas Frank; they are sixth in the Premier League and have picked up eight points from four Champions League fixtures.
It goes without saying that this Spurs squad is not complete and cannot realistically compete in every competition. Thomas Frank requires more help in the transfer market, and the club chiefs must build on the successful summer transfer window they enjoyed. The Lilywhites are expected to target attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window as they aim to close the gap on their rivals in the second half of the campaign.
Tottenham failed to replace the legendary Son Heung-min in the summer, and that decision is haunting them. Thomas Frank’s side have found it difficult to create opportunities from the left flank, with none of Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel or Brennan Johnson managing to cement their spot in the XI. As such, the Dane’s side requires a wide player who can compete with the current options and improve the squad depth.
According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham are among several clubs to have scouted RB Leipzig talent Yan Diomande. Spurs’ Premier League rivals Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal are also monitoring the player’s progress, while European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich have been alerted to the youngster’s form. A pacy player, Diomande has shoown he is more than just a one trick pony.
Indeed, Yan Diomande has been making waves in the Bundesliga this season. The African winger has been among the brightest sparks in a strong start to the season for RB Leipzig, registering two goals and three assists in nine Bundesliga appearances. The German side were smart in identifying the 18-year-old’s talent when he was plying his trade for Spanish club Leganes and moved quickly to sign him in July by triggering his £17.6m release clause.
“Despite Ole Werner having summer signing Johan Bakayoko and Norwegian star Antonio Nusa at his disposal, Diomande is the one everyone is talking about and looking at,” TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey revealed.
“He really is special, I am told Red Bull think he could be their greatest prospect since Erling Haaland. Leipzig say there is no release clause, and already he is being talked about in the £88 million category.
“From what I am hearing from scouts and clubs, there is not a player currently in Europe who has clubs more excited. Could he have a third club in 18 months, come next summer? It’s not beyond the realms of possibility.”
Diomande has grabbed the attention of several clubs with his performances for RB Leipzig, and it is fair to say that he is emerging as one of the hottest attacking talents in the European circuit. A left-winger by trade, the one-cap Ivory Coast international possesses pace, flair and trickery in abundance to unsettle well-drilled defences. Such kind of profile is exactly required at Tottenham.
At 18, the Leipzig man is still very young and raw, and if Tottenham end up signing him, he’ll represent an investment for the future rather than a commodity ready to make a difference in the first team. And given the Lilywhites’ transfer approach of splashing the cash on prodigious talents across the world, it would be no surprise if they decide to make a move for Diomande in January.
All in all, the Hotspur Way chiefs must continue keeping tabs on Diomande’s progress at the Red Bull Arena before deciding whether to make a move or not.
