Thomas Frank has been chosen as the man to succeed Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur, and he will be desperate to get his reign across the capital off to a good start.
Last season’s troubles in the Premier League proved that the Spurs squad is not up to the level, which will be heightened by their next term’s UEFA Champions League campaign. The current make of the squad has highlighted the need for another forward.
The North Londoners will need squad depth for next season as they will be competing against top teams in the Champions League. The onus is on Daniel Levy to bring in the right profiles that will fit into the system and playing style of Thomas Frank, whilst aligning with the club’s youth-oriented recruitment strategy.
Now, according to TBR Football senior correspondent Graeme Bailey, Tottenham are among several English clubs to have scouted Dynamo Kyiv striker Vladyslav Vanat previously and are set to watch him closely in action for Ukraine during the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia.
Vladyslav Vanat was outstanding for Dynamo Kyiv this past season, scoring 21 goals and picking up nine assists along the way. This has naturally put several clubs across the continent on red alert, with reputable journalist Graeme Bailey describing him as “arguably the most fascinating player” at the European Under-21 Championship.
However, the 23-year-old’s campaign has not started well. He fired a blank as Ukraine lost 2-3 to Denmark during the opening game of the European tournament. Vanat will be raring to bounce back on Sunday when his nation faces Finland.
The Ukrainian striker has a long way to go in his career, and after impressing for Dynamo Kyiv, he may well be ready for a big move this summer. Tottenham are in desperate need of a reliable back-up for club-record signing Dominic Solanke, after Richarlison failed to do his job last season and is now linked with an exit. Solanke, too, had an up-and-down debut campaign in North London, struggling with form and fitness like most of his teammates.
Vanat has demonstrated that he can find the back of the net in the Ukrainian league and Champions League qualification rounds last term, but the transitioning from the Ukrainian league to the Premier League is expected to be difficult. So, Spurs will have to be patient and give the striker ample time to adjust to the rigours of English football if they decide to move for him.
For now, Tottenham scouts must continue following Vanat’s performances in the European tournament.
