Tottenham Hotspur are finally starting to get moving in the summer transfer window.
Indeed, the North Londoners officially announced their second signing of the summer transfer window in the form of highly-rated Japanese defender Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale, and they are certainly not done yet. Spurs’ focus will now shift to improving their attacking options, with West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus emerging as a top target.
Tottenham have already had two bids rejected by West Ham for Mohammed Kudus, but the club remain in concrete negotiations. The Ghanaian international has a £85m release clause written into his contract, but that clause only runs until July 10. However, it’s believed that the Hammers would be willing to negotiate a deal for less than that, with some reports suggesting they want around £65m.
Kudus is expected to leave the London Stadium this summer as West Ham look to raise funds for a squad rebuild under manager Graham Potter. The versatile attacker is keen on a move to Tottenham as he is attracted to the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season.
Now, former Tottenham and West Ham boss Harry Redknapp has offered his thoughts on Kudus’ possible move to N17. When speaking on talkSPORT show, he was asked about Spurs’ summer business thus far, including a deal for the African attacker. And whilst he seemed to advocate a move, the English pundit did confess to some reservations about the player.
“He’s not bad. There’s no doubting his ability. I know one or two people around the place at West Ham, I think there are question marks over him,” Harry Redknapp said on talkSPORT show.
“I think his ability is not questionable but I don’t know. But he’s certainly got ability and he’s a player that when he gets on the ball, he can make things happen, he’ll be exciting.
“So yeah he’ll certainly bring something to Tottenham for sure.”
Kudus’ form last season will be a worry for Spurs as the Hammers star notched just five goals and three assists in 32 Premier League outings. However, he was playing in a poor West Ham side that lacked any sort of rhythm and balance.
New Tottenham boss Thomas Frank will be able to get the best out of the Ghana ace and bring consistency to his game, which he was sorely lacking throughout the previous campaign. With better players around him at Spurs, Kudus would thrive and may even bring the ‘X-factor’ in attack during Champions League nights.
