Tottenham expected to pursue marquee signings in post-Daniel Levy era

Daniel Levy has stepped away from his role as Tottenham chairman after almost 25 years at the helm.

The 63-year-old has been an integral part of the north London club’s development in recent years, even if progress has not always been linear, and his departure has sent shockwaves throughout the Premier League and beyond. The English businessman did not want to leave his post at Spurs, but the higher-ups felt it was time for a change.

Daniel Levy, at least, would have been proud that he leaves the club after overseeing May’s UEFA Europa League triumph in Bilbao. Now, Tottenham are set to embark on a new era and it is expected that Levy’s exit will help them hit the heights they have been long craving.

Tottenham to make changes to their transfer strategy

Writing exclusively on Flashscore, reputed journalist Dean Jones reports that fans will now see a seismic change in Tottenham’s transfer strategy following the departure of Levy, who always had a reputation as a tough negotiator when conducting the club’s transfer business. He states the Hotspur Way chiefs are already thinking about transfers in the near future, and a big name is already in their sights.

It is claimed that on the transfer deadline day, Spurs made an ambitious enquiry for AC Milan star Rafael Leao. However, AC Milan scared off the Lilywhites by slapping an eye-watering valuation of €100m on the forward. However, Dean Jones says Tottenham’s desire to test the Serie A club’s resolve for the player is now viewed as ‘significant’ in light of Levy’s exit.

Fans want to see Spurs show ambition in the transfer window

A fresh transfer recruitment strategy is expected to take shape now after a big change at board level. Spurs spent just under £180m this past transfer window for several talents who will improve Thomas Frank’s first XI, but given they finished a staggering 17th in the Premier League last season and salvaged it by some extent by winning the Europa League, fans would have expected more transfer business.

Nonetheless, the north Londoners making an approach to Milan over Leao was refreshing, to say the least. Very rarely did they pursue big, marquee signings under Levy’s leadership all these years, but there is now hope of that changing in the coming years. Whether the club makes a statement by signing Leao next year remains to be seen, but one thing appears clear: Tottenham will be ambitious and compete with the best European clubs for top players.
