Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks, but Paul Robinson feels that he will stay at the club for at least another year.
The 28-year-old has been a key player for Tottenham since joining the club, and they cannot afford to lose a player of his quality. They have already looked toothless in the attack at times, and the departure of their most creative player would be a big blow. Maddison has 12 goals and 10 assists this season.
Robinson feels that the player is likely to stay for another year at the very least.
Speaking to Tottenham News, he said: “They’re not going to sell him when he’s injured. The biggest thing is the manager and the recruitment side of things. Madison’s a top player, and you forget about some of these players.
“There’s a lot of talk about Romero’s future, Maddison’s future, other players’ futures. But with a different manager there next year, it puts a whole different complex on things. You know, there’s a different set of eyes looking at him.
” I think if a new manager came in next season, he didn’t play many games between now and next January, then there’s a conversation to be had. But I think with him being injured, you’ll do well to get the type of money that Tottenham would want for him. So I think James Maddison is going to be a Tottenham player for at least another year.”
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can bring in the right addition during the summer transfer window and bounce back strongly. They will need to secure Champions League qualification and fight for major trophies if they want to hold on to their best players.
Maddison has been labelled as Tottenham’s “main man” by Micah Richards.
Cristian Romero has been linked with an exit from the club in recent weeks, and the South American is expected to move on in the summer. He has been linked with big clubs like Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Romero has done well for his country at the international level, and he has won the World Cup and the Copa America. He will look to win major trophies at the club level now. Tottenham are going through a period of rebuilding, and they might not be able to fulfil his ambitions right now. It makes sense for him to move on and join a team capable of winning major trophies consistently.
