Tottenham are interested in signing Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho

Tottenham Hotspur are looking for further attacking reinforcements to bolster new boss Thomas Frank’s squad.

Spurs have already signed Mathys Tel in a €45m deal from Bayern Munich, after the French forward seemingly did enough during his loan spell to convince the club bosses that he could have a future in North London. They are not satisfied with Tel’s acquisition, and rightly so.

The Lilywhites faced problems in the final third this past season, with Son Heung-min underperforming and Richarlison spending much of the time on the sidelines. The club bosses are planning to offload both Son and Richarlison in this transfer window, having already rejected the chance to turn Timo Werner’s loan from RB Leipzig into a permanent deal.

Regardless of whatever happens with Son and Richarlison, Tottenham need another option in their attack next season to compete in the Premier League and the Champions League. Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has emerged as a shock target for the North Londoners of late.

The Red Devils fully intend to sell Alejandro Garnacho as they seek to escalate an extreme overhaul of the squad this summer. He is among three other high profile forwards the club aim to offload to generate funds for new signings. The Argentinean international cast doubt on his own future after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao after Ruben Amorim dropped him from the starting XI.

Now, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Garnacho has three offers from the Premier League to leave Manchester United. Tottenham, Chelsea and Aston Villa have all made formal offers to Man United for the 20-year-old.

The South American attacker, who can operate on both flank, is valued at around £70m. He has still three years left on his contract, which puts the Red Devils in a strong negotiating position for their player. Despite the player being accused for his poor off-field attitude and decision making, Garnacho was actually Utd’s second most effective player from an offensive standpoint last season, behind only Bruno Fernandes. He bagged 11 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, and such numbers in a disjointed side from a young, raw talent speaks volumes about his potential.

Spurs could actually do well with a player of Garnacho’s traits, especially in Frank’s system that relies heavily on fast, unpredictable wingers during attacks and transitions. The Madrid-born prodigy would add flair, potency and unpredictability to Tottenham’s attack, whilst being an option to replace the ageing Son.

That being said, however, if Daniel Levy can negotiate down the £70m asking price to around £55-60m, Spurs must sign Garnacho.
