Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has failed to make a prominent mark at N17 following his high-profile switch from Brighton. The Mali international arrived at the club with high expectations, but it just seems like he lost his way at Hotspur Way as time went by. The 28-year-old struggled to maintain his place in the starting eleven under Antonio Conte, with many fans questioning his ability and playing style.
However, the ex-Brighton star received a lifeline under Ange Postecoglou, as he was the standout player in the team during the ex-Celtic manager’s initial months at N17. But the purple patch in form did not last for a long time, and Bissouma eventually fell down the pecking order under the Australian tactician as well last season.
But it is also fair to say that the Mali international played a crucial part in helping Spurs win the Europa League last season. The 28-year-old forced his way into the lineup after the club endured an injury crisis, and the Spurs No.8 performed consistently to ensure that the Lilywhites got over the line during the latter stages of the competition.
There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to cash-in on Yves Bissouma. The Mali international has one year remaining in his contract at N17, and the Lilywhites feel that this is the best time to sell the midfielder and recoup some money to buy a quality replacement instead. With the North London club aiming to build on the Europa League success next season, Levy wants to revamp the squad quickly for Thomas Frank.
It was reported earlier that Bissouma was linked with a move to Juventus in the summer. The Bianconeri are long-term admirers of the Mali international, and want him to join the club in the summer as they look to mount up a challenge for the Serie A title. Juve’s General Director Damien Comolli wants to make use of his excellent relationship with Daniel Levy for the 28-year-old’s signature.
However, striking a deal for the midfielder is not as easy as it sounds as there are several other suitors lining up for Bissouma’s signature. As per GiveMeSport, Premier League clubs have also registered their interest in the Mali international. But the 28-year-old is not keen to play for any other in England and would prefer a move to Turin instead, considering Juventus pay the required price for his services.
No one can deny the fact that the ex-Brighton star has immense quality in his locker. The 28-year-old was also termed ‘ridiculous’ by teammate James Maddison for his excellent qualities on the ball. And one can also say that a move away from Spurs might just help him get his confidence back. It remains to be seen what the midfielder decides to do in the coming weeks as fans wait for a conclusion regarding the transfer saga.
